Set Preferences

Set the following preferences for your course:

Continue automatically to next screen

Keep this option checked to advance as you complete each screen. Uncheck the box to stay on each screen until you click the Advance button to move to the next screen. See The Navigation Bar.

Typing Options

Choose Typing Precision options to modify the difficulty of getting a passing score on typing screens. See Typing.

• Case sensitive requires the correct combination of capital and lower case letters.
• Punctuation sensitive requires correct punctuation in sentences.
• Diacritic sensitive requires correct use of diacritics: accent marks and other special characters that create new sounds or letters in the language you're learning, such as á, ö, ñ, ç.

Choose the Keyboard layout you want to work with on your computer and on the typing screen.

Your Course

You'll see the course you selected when you first started Rosetta Stone.

Click Change Your Course Settings to select a different course.

Note: Changing your course will add some activities and remove others. You may want to go back to earlier Lessons to do the activities that have been added, so that your course score is complete.

See About Your Course for guidance on selecting a course.

The settings related to audio devices, speech recognition, and other sound settings can be adjusted on the Audio Settings tab.

Change Device Settings

Use the Device Settings to choose a different headset, or adjust the settings for your headset. You can also adjust Speaker Volume.

Click Microphone Setup to launch the screen that adjusts to your voice. See Set Up the Headset.

Set the Speaker Volume using the slider bar, which is also accessible directly from the Preferences menu.

Speech Recognition Settings

Check Use speech recognition to receive feedback on the accuracy of your speech. If you turn off speech recognition, you will no longer be prompted to speak. In speaking screens, you'll just listen to the native speaker.

Select the settings to help speech recognition match your voice: Male or Female and check Childif appropriate.

Speech Precision Level

Set the level of precision required for the speech recognition software to recognize your pronunciation as correct.

Use the slider to select a speech precision level to set the software’s response to the accuracy of your pronunciation, in a range from Easy to Normal to Difficult.

Voice Type

Select Male or Female to help speech recognition match your voice.

Answer Sounds Settings

Check Disable Answer Sounds to turn off the sounds that indicate correct and incorrect answers.
